StyleWhipped is thrilled to welcome a very special guest writer, Gregory Generet. Gregory is not only a fabulously talented jazz singer, but also one of the best-dressed men we have ever met! His meticulous style just had to be shared with our readers...so check out this terrific article about the importance of wearing an amazing but oft-forgotten accessory...the pocket square! Thank you, Gregory!
POCKET SQUARES
First, let me just say for the record, what I am about to comment on is my take on a rather seemingly insignificant fashion statement. However, it is one that I feel most interested in discussing. It is about the dress handkerchief, or the “pocket square.” Upon observation, I find a large majority of men who wear suits or sport jackets refrain from finishing their look by neglecting this small, but I feel rather appropriate, accessory. This chest pocket of a jacket is not for a pair of reading glasses, but to quote Alan Flusser, author of Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion, “... to display a bit of finish.”
I am sure most men avoid this partly because they are unsure of what to do. Poor babies. For the most part, they don’t seem to have a frame of reference. Over the last 10 years or so fashion has become a wasteland of the “relaxed look." A look preferred by those internet moguls and not a few celebrities, who were making so much money. They seemed to think they were, in some way, getting back at all those straight-laced, “most likely to succeed” fellas by being rich enough to say, “I don’t need a jacket and tie, and if you want my business or expertise you should relax and loosen yourself up.” (Pardon the rant, please.) Where was I? Oh, yes… frame of reference. Seeing other men with this accessory was a seemingly rare occurrence. Therefore, I am here to help. I’m going to give you some examples of what to do to find your bliss. When one dons a pocket square properly, your look is complete, whether it be with a tie or not.
There are hard and fast rules to this, but I want to make this as painless as possible. First, because there are few of you who do not even carry the thing because of perceived hygienic repercussions, more the reason to use the handkerchief as a fashion accessory. The rule of thumb is you can never go wrong with a white cotton handkerchief whenever a white shirt is appropriate. A quality silk dress handkerchief is a must, because it has to stand up to being creased or folded many times. A poor-quality silk handkerchief cannot survive this. A patterned silk hanky is good for casual jackets. With some practice your pocket square will appear to be a relaxed elegance you just simply tucked into the breast pocket. The best folded squares are the ones that do not draw
attention to themselves. A tie with silken luster calls for a matte pocket square. Perhaps linen or cotton. For use with a wool or linen tie, go with a silken square. As Mr. Flusser says, “if one secures a handkerchief which contains the colors that are in the tie and/or shirt, this makes a smart combination. It is undesirable to match the colors exactly as this looks studied.” No looking like a certain talk show host with matching tie and pocket square…and of the same color as the shirt! Aaaagggghhh!!!
I wrote this because I so want to see men take more care in how they present themselves to the world and to women. After all, if she can take the time to look great for you and other women, you can too.

If the T-shirt has a "sanforized" label, it should not shrink more than 1%,
but you can try by washing and drying it at a high temperature.
If it does not have a sanforized label, this will shrink it, maybe
more than you want, so just wash it hot and dry by hanging - not in
the dryer. Repeat, if not shrunk enough, using the dryer,
but I take no responsibility if it is then too small
