Right about now, we all start thinking about the seemingly endless amount of gifts we have to buy and give over the next eight weeks or so. On top of the holidays, events, and parties that come at this time of year, we have over a dozen birthdays in my family within November and December alone. So needless to say, I'm pretty much permanently on the hunt for those "perfect" gifts...the ones that have multiple uses, appeal to a variety of tastes, and are (maybe most importantly) under $100...
Now of course I'd love to be able to give everyone the ultimate cashmere sweater or some serious jewelry. But those are things that have hefty pricetags and are hard to choose for others (even for a stylist!). Sometimes, a gorgeous piece of home decor is the best way to go, and this mother-of-pearl tray from Williams Sonoma is maybe the perfect example. It has multiple uses (it can sit on your dresser and hold perfume bottles or be used to serve cocktails at a party), it appeals to a variety of tastes (it is both feminine and sleek, and both retro-inspired and perfectly modern), and it totally affordable (its pricetag is an excellent $98). It is surdy enough to last forever (the "silver" is actually stainless steel), but those beautiful iridescent mother-of-pearl tiles offer a dose of Old-Hollywood glamour.
Hmmm...come to think of it, who really needs to give this as a gift anyway? I might just have to buy one for myself...
