How many times have you found yourself glancing at the expensive bottle of champagne in your fridge and thinking "I really to need to find a special occasion to open that"? How many times have you tried on your fabulous new dress (or shoes/cocktail ring/etc) with the tags still on it, anticipating an "event" to wear it to? And how many times have your grandmother's fancy cocktail glasses sat in the cabinet (you know, "for a formal dinner party") while you were kind of disgusted by drinking out of the Diet Coke can from your local bodega?
Here's the thing. Life is short. It passes by in an instant. So stop saving everything for a special occasion. The name of my company is Life, Styled. for a reason...I think our entire lives can be made more beautiful, more enjoyable, a little fancier. If you own nice things, why let them sit unused? If you want to drink that champagne with your Chinese take-out, why not open it? Or take an extra 15 seconds and empty the Diet Coke into a vintage glass...your grandmother would be happy someone is using and appreciating her things. Don't spray chemical-filled room spritzer...light a beautiful candle instead (a soy candle is even better!). You'll have a pretty scent, instant ambience and a calming effect all at once (seriously, Febreeze cannot do that!).
And that's the other thing...you need to make life happen. You need to make a conscious, present-in-the-moment effort to improve your life and surroundings, because it's not going to happen on its own. That amazing date you're waiting to wear the new dress for? What if it doesn't happen until next season? Wear the dress out with your girlfriends and have an overdressed-Carrie-Bradshaw-moment. You can still wear it again on that date. And speaking of dates...if you meet someone you want to see again, tell them! The "rules" of old are well...old. And when that date comes to pick you up (c'mon, guys...pick us up - it's still a nice "old" thing to do...), you can simply open a new bottle of champagne.
So go...be a little more daring, a little more present, a little more styled. It will make everything seem better, feel lovelier, and get you in a groove where who knows what could happen...
