You all know that I think every single part of our lives can be styled. So ladies, please (please, please, please) don't forget about what you sleep in! Even when I was a little girl, I only wanted to sleep in pretty, girly pyjamas. When everyone else in college passed out in boxer shorts and a t-shirt, I was wearing satin nightgowns. Whether you are single (you never know when you'll have an invitation for an overnight date!) or in a relationship (this is like putting lipstick on before you get home), wearing something feminine, attractive and flattering to bed is the best way to feel good about yourself even without that lipstick. It's also a nice thing to do for your partner if you aren't sleeping alone!
Personally, I have always favored sort of "fancy" nightgowns...satin, silk, long, short...as long as they make me feel like I'm still putting on an "outfit" to go to sleep, I'm happy. Of course, those aren't for everyone. If they feel too done-up, try something in jersey or cotton. And if anything resembling a dress doesn't seem comfortable to you, try a matching boy-shorts-&-tank-top set in a silky fabric. And if you're someone who is always cold at night, ditch your sweatpants or flannel nightgown (seriously...so not cute...) for pyjamas with long pants in super soft, flowy silk with a matching long-sleeved top. They'll keep you just as warm without the bulky, I-borrowed-these-from-my-brother look.
This nightgown from always-favorite designer Phillip Lim is one that sort of crosses styles, making it the perfect piece to feature here. It's stretch-silk fabric isn't overly shiny like satin, but also just a bit higher-end than simple jersey cotton. There isn't a bit of cheesy lace to be found, but rather actual-clothing type of styling. It's almost-nude shade with a lemon yellow bandeau top is super flattering to all skin tones (and body types!), and would be amazingly comfortable to actually sleep in (yes, take that as you will...wink, wink...). Oh, and that pretty-steep-for-a-nightgown pricetag ($185) is because this one will last you...well, until you are just sick of it. Which will most likely be never. So, see...it's actually quite a good deal!
