I am extreme in my jewelry preferences. I like everything to be either incredibly dainty (to the point where people have to lean in to really see it) or insanely oversized. So when it comes to rings, I tend to go with very skinny stackables or something like my new super-delicate "love" in the tiniest diamonds...or a really, really large single cocktail ring that makes a serious statement. And yesterday, while in a meeting with a diamond company I work with, I had the (amazing, oh-my-god-i-am-dying) pleasure of trying on a 20-carat yellow diamond ring. Holy cow. First, the stone was almost as big as my hand. Second, it would run you about $1 million to actually buy it. But third...it gave me a little inspiration to find some new fabulously giant cocktail rings that only look like they should cost that much!
An amazing way to own a piece from a high-end designer is jewelry. So many designers (Pucci, Lanvin, YSL, etc, etc) now have costume jewelry collections. And while they aren't "cheap," they also aren't so extraordinarily expensive like a piece of their clothing might be. One of my very favorites is this perfect-for-Fall and perfectly-on-trend ring from Oscar de la Renta. Massive in scale (it measures 2 inches by 2 inches), it has the most stunning center crystal stone in saturated burgundy. This is one of this season's hottest colors, and this is a clever, easy way to incorporate it into your wardrobe. The rest of the ring looks super expensive (it isn't...it is less than $300!), is covered in other crystals, and finished in burnished gold-plated pewter and brass. It even has a hidden internal adjustable band (perfect for those of us with mini fingers!).
And since this is costume, it's a good excuse to wear it all the time...because this really is the ideal piece to enhance anything from a formal dress to a night-on-the-town outfit to a boho weekend brunch look that needs a little extra sparkle. And besides...it's de la Renta, which clearly everyone needs at least a little bit of. Clearly...
