I am never a big fan of anything kitchy, cute or whimsical. I go for straight-up glamour, edgy rocker style, or (very occassionally!) elegant simplicity. But apparently today is considered the most depressing day of the year, and I have to admit that I too am feeling it a little bit. But the minute I saw these incredible, "delicious" 'Sweet Dolly' heels from Charlotte Olympia (the queen of sophisticated whimsy), my day/outlook/attitude brightened up. If I actually bought them, my bank account would certainly be lightened up (!), but sometimes all you need is a little inspiration...
In the loveliest robin's egg blue ultrafine suede, these have a 6-inch heel (start practicing now, ladies!), a gorgeous, '70's-influenced floating gold platform, and a detachable ankle strap made of beads that resembles those candy necklaces we always had as kids! There is a even a little gold heart charm amidst the beads. These are somehow so adorable and so incredibly chic at the same time, that even I am madly in love (and wouldn't even remove the ankle strap!). And while it would be fun to wear them as is, these do perfect double-duty because without the faux candies these are simply one of those most beautiful, unexpected-in-January, sexy, stunning heels that can go with almost anything in your closet...this shade of blue easily compliments a million other colors and is a nice shock of something light and airy in the dead of winter (but still in a seasonally-appropriate fabrication).
So go ahead, throwback to your childhood...just do it the right way!
