(This is a question I get a lot. I am 4'11". But that's not where I'm going with this...)
I cannot stand this winter any longer. I am seriously about to watch my own head explode if it snows or is 8 degrees out one more time. So therefore, I am going to try to take advantage of some pre-spring shopping (or at least browsing...) to try and cheer myself up out of this freezing-induced bad mood...!
So I am officially allowing myself to look at gorgeously-printed maxi dresses, pastel tank tops, even shorts. Yes...shorts! And here's the beauty of shorts...we can buy them now for spring/summer, but depending on the design we can also actually wear them NOW! As long as they aren't denim cutoffs or summery cotton, shorts with tights, platform heels and a cute top are incredibly chic for a night out in winter. Just find ones that are silk, velvet, beaded, etc, and they will work just as beautifully now as later. The only other thing to keep in mind is the fit...make sure you don't go for anything too short or too tight...you want there to be significant level of drape and slouch (and room for those tights!).
This pair from one of my faves Rebecca Taylor is the absolute perfect example. In flowy polyester and this coming season's super hot tiger print, these will be stunning in July with tan legs and a white tank top. And for now, their strategically-placed, totally flattering pleats give them that extra volume needed to be ideal to wear over black tights. They almost look like a skirt (but even knowing they are shorts makes summer seem less far away!), and deserve sky-high black patent heels, and black silk top (you can get away with anything from a spaghetti-strap tank top to a long-sleeved silk blouse tucked in). Top the whole look off with a cropped fur jacket (real or faux...) so that you don't look like you forgot your pants (which is what will happen with a long coat!).
And summer really will be here one day. I swear. So just buy these now and you'll be that much more ready...
