As the giant mountain of snow in my front yard finally starts to melt the tiniest bit (45 degrees feels like 80 today...), I have also finally started to get excited about Spring maybe managing to make some kind of appearance soon. I am over boots (except for my last post of course...those are too cool to not love all the time...), really over winter coats, totally and completely over it taking me 12 minutes to get all my gear on just to take my dog out for a 4-minute walk...well, you get the idea.
So I have started to think about what some of my (and therefore your...) first big purchases for Spring should be. And it is always easy to start with outerwear, for a few reasons. Spring and Fall tend to be seasons when your outerwear is really part of your outfit. You can build an entire look based around a fabulous jacket, and my personal favorite is a great leather moto jacket. I have a stupid amount of them, but each one lends its own particular importance to my wardrobe. I always say to start by making sure you own a perfect black leather motorcycle jacket - one that fits you like it was made for you, is warm enough to wear in late March but not so hot that you never pull it out again two weeks later, and that makes you feel like the coolest girl in the room. But after that, well, this is an amazing piece to experiment with a little. I have one that is black and white with an asymmetrical zipper that I am a little obsessed with. And one of my very favorite combinations is a tough-looking silhouette in a really feminine color - i.e., a leather moto jacket in the palest baby pink or ice blue. And what you can wear with it is endless...put it over a plaid flannel and destroyed skinny jeans. Use it to top off a chunky sweater and leggings...or even put it over a short evening dress and killer stilettos.
So when I was looking at that white pile of snow in my yard, I started to think about a white leather moto jacket. And how it would instantly elevate some of the few things I have already bought for the new season. And then I found this one from BCBG, which in my opinion, is simply perfect. In stark, clean white, it has beautiful detailing at the shoulders and on the back, a nipped-in waist to keep it fitted and a little sexy, my prerequisite asymmetrical zipper, gorgeously draped lines, and comes in BCBG's always-impeccable sizing. Yes, you will have to work to keep this one clean, but it is worth it. Seriously, seriously worth it. Because you won't just be the coolest girl in the room, but the chicest as well.
