I talk all the time (ALL THE TIME) about tops that I consider appropriate for "going out" or a "night on the town." These are tops that have something special...a sexy cut-out, an unusual, deep neckline, peek-a-boo shoulders, or most importantly, some sort of sparkle that would be slightly out of place during the day. Now that doesn't at all mean that I am opposed to wearing sparkle (whether it be from sequins or studs or rhinestones) while the sun is shining. It's just that there is a fine line between what you can get away with and what really works better for evening. I recently bought a sheer off-white tunic that has panels of matte grey sequins adorning the front (the back is completely sheer). And while I technically could pull this off for daytime with destroyed jeans and flats (to tone down the shimmer), it is really better suited to an evening look paired with liquid leggings, my highest stilettos, big hair, and some interesting, vintage diamond & platinum jewelry.
So while I don't like to post the exact items I have purchased (c'mon...I have to keep something to myself...), I do like to provide a visual to go with my description. And this top from Plenty by Tracy Reese is the perfect example. (Quick side note: Tracy Reese is one of our very favorites here at Stylewhipped, as well as the very first NY Fashion Week show I ever attended!) But back to the goods. This ivory viscose tank is flowy enough to be flattering and easy to wear but not so voluminous that you look like maybe you have a bun in the oven (!). And the Art Deco-inspired pattern created out of the sequins is really chic and sophisticated.
My suggestion would be to pair this specific top with your skinniest dark jeans or black pants, the highest heels you can muster the courage to wear, and complimentary Art Deco-inspired jewelry to keep the look consistent. And could you wear this during the day with a similar outfit to what I mentioned earlier? Absolutely. But it kind of deserves a moonlit street or a really great photo on Instagram, and will provide the twinkle that every evening out deserves...
