For forever and a day, Diane von Furstenberg has pretty much been my favorite designer. Her pieces are the perfect combination of feminine, boho-chic, luxe and sexy. They make me excited about fashion, and I happen to also really respect Ms. Diane as a woman and as a business person. My grandmother had a magnificent collection of original DVF wrap dresses and I remember her letting me try on my favorite one with a green-&-white print that I have amazing photos of her in. And then the other night while having a quick fashion chat with my lovely friend Teresa, we took a moment to discuss our mutual adoration of everything DVF. Teresa is actually in the market for (in her words) "non-work dresses," which reminded me to take a peek at what was going on over at DVF this season. And holy moly, well...look at what I found...
This dress, the "Brianna," is IT for me. It is my perfect, I-want-to-wear-this-every-night-in-a-different-color dress. It is flowy and breezy and comfortable with its maxi length and empire waist but also shows exactly the right amount of skin on top with its subtlely sexy sweetheart neckline. It even has a number of unexpected design details like the not-at-all-cutesy oversized flounce at the bottom and the matching sweetheart silhouette in the back. The black & white tie-dye print is perfect for summer and adds that little bit of edge to the whole look. I would wear it with my new glittery gold platforms, a little black & gold leather clutch and layers of my mother's delicate opal jewelry. But you could also style this way more casually with strappy flat sandals, a teeny-tiny cross-body bag and earthy beaded jewelry. In other words, you could wear this dress to happy hour at the beach or to an informal wedding. And yes, the price tag is rather hefty (just shy of $1,000), but it is one of those investment pieces that will never go out of style, will never not fit you, and you will wear for years to come.
Thanks, Diane. You are still my love.
